Our Programs
Junior group
Our junior group teaches youth from the young age of 5. Junior panist are taught the history of the steel pan, basic music theory, and beginner compositions such as One Love by Bob Marley. Junior panist are given the chance to display their new music skills at HYSO’s annual Christmas concert.

10 am - 11 am
intermediate group
Our intermediate group consists of panist who have mastered the basics on the steel pan and have demonstrated learned skills such as , playing the C scale, runs, memorization of songs, hand technique, and control while playing their steel pan. Panist in the intermediate group will be exposed to more challenging compositions and will focus on learning new techniques that will increase their pan playing skills

senior group
Our Senior group is also our performing group. The panist in the senior group will be exposed to music they hear every day on the radio. Panist are challenged to learn songs by artists like Sam Smith, Drake, and Lauryn Hill. Senior panist repertoire consists of several genres of music including soca, reggae, classical, pop, parang, and Christmas music. Senior panist will have the opportunity to enage with community and display their growing skills through multiple performances during the year.

adult group
The Adult groups are the newest edition to HYSO. Our first adult group commenced in September 2018. Starting September 2019 a second adult group called the “Apprentice class” will commence! Absolutely no experience is needed. Participants are taught basic music theory , c scale, and beginner friendly songs. All are welcome !
